A drop-leg holster built on the QLS 19/22 quick-locking system lets you drop your sidearm to a natural draw height and swap holsters in seconds. This step-by-step install uses Zlangsports gear—the ZL-KCB QLS kit and the ZL-KCYD drop-leg platform—but the process is identical for any QLS-compatible setup.
What Is QLS 19/22?
QLS (Quick Locking System) is the industry-standard fork-and-receiver interface made famous by Safariland. It splits your holster into two parts:
QLS 19 — The Fork (Plug)
Bolts onto the back of your holster shell. One fork fits every QLS 22 receiver, so you can move one holster between rigs instantly.
QLS 22 — The Receiver (Shroud)
Mounts to your drop-leg platform or adapter base. The holster clicks in, rotates to lock, and releases with a thumb press.
Zlangsports’ ZL-KCB kit ships both parts and fits Glock 17/19, 1911, M9, P226, SIG and USP platforms. Pair it with the short adapter base for belt height or the long adapter base to extend the drop.
Tools You’ll Need
- ZL-KCB QLS kit (fork + receiver + hardware)
- ZL-KCYD drop-leg platform (or short/long adapter base)
- A Phillips or T15/T20 Torx driver (match your holster’s screws)
- Your holster shell and sidearm (unloaded—double-check the chamber!)
Installation — Step by Step
Mount the QLS 19 fork to your holster
Line the fork’s holes up with the backing-plate screws on the rear of your holster shell. Tighten evenly with your driver until the fork is flush and rattle-free. Don’t overtighten—strip the threads and the fork will walk under recoil.
Mount the QLS 22 receiver to the platform
Place the receiver on the ZL-KCYD drop-leg shroud (or on the short / long adapter base). Secure the supplied screws. The receiver’s open mouth should face upward so the fork drops in.
Fit the drop-leg harness to your thigh
Thread the ZL-KCYD’s elastic thigh strap around your upper leg, roughly two finger-widths above the knee. Hook the top belt loop over your tactical belt or pant waistband so the platform hangs from both the belt and the thigh strap—this stops it spinning when you draw.
Set the ride height and angle
Stand in a relaxed stance and mimic a draw. The platform should sit on the outside of your thigh with the receiver opening angled slightly forward. If it digs into your ribs or sits below the knee, loosen the strap and re-position.
Lock the holster into the receiver
Align the QLS 19 fork with the receiver mouth and push down firmly while rotating the holster until it clicks and seats. Give it a firm upward tug—a properly locked fork will not separate. The thumb lever on the receiver is your release.
Test lock and release with an empty gun
Practice the draw and re-holster ten times. Confirm the holster never pops loose on a hard tug, and that the thumb release lets go cleanly. Only load the sidearm once the motion is consistent and the lock is proven.
Fine-tune and train
Tighten the thigh strap so the platform stays put during sprints and kneels, but not so tight it cuts circulation. Re-check screw torque after your first two games—vibration loosens hardware.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Loose thigh strap — the platform spins on the draw; snug it so it moves only with your leg.
- Receiver mounted upside down — the fork can’t seat; the open mouth must face up.
- Skipping the belt loop — hanging only from the thigh strap lets the rig pivot.
- No lock confirmation — always tug-test before loading.
Why Run a Drop-Leg + QLS Setup?
Drop-leg rigs lower the gun below bulky plate-carrier seams, giving a cleaner draw when you’re crouched or leaning out of a vehicle. QLS adds modularity: one forked holster clicks between your drop-leg, a belt adapter, and a chest rig in seconds—ideal if you run multiple loadouts. It’s the same reason we pair it with our training targets for at-home draw drills.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between QLS 19 and QLS 22?
QLS 19 is the fork (plug) that bolts to the back of your holster shell. QLS 22 is the receiver (shroud) that mounts to your drop-leg platform or adapter base. The fork clicks into any QLS 22 receiver, which is what makes the system interchangeable.
Will the ZL-KCB kit fit my Glock 19?
Yes. The ZL-KCB QLS kit is specified for Glock 17/19, 1911, M9, P226, SIG and USP platforms. If your holster shell matches one of those, the fork mounts directly to the backing plate.
Can I mount the receiver on a belt instead of a drop-leg?
Absolutely. Use the short adapter base to fix the QLS 22 receiver at belt height, or the long adapter base to extend the drop—same receiver, different ride height.
How do I know the holster is locked in?
After pushing the fork into the receiver and rotating, give the holster a firm upward tug. A seated QLS fork will not separate. If it lifts out, it wasn’t rotated fully—re-seat and tug-test again before loading.
My drop-leg platform spins when I draw—why?
Usually the thigh strap is too loose or the top belt loop isn’t engaged. Snug the elastic strap so the platform moves only with your leg, and make sure the belt loop is hooked over your waistband or tactical belt.
